From Fernando’s Lips To Ron’s Ear!
Written by George Katinger · October 7, 2005
The newly crowned 2005 Drivers Champion Fernando Alonso has been remarkable this year for many reasons, but in particular one: His lack of controversial statements and news items creating fodder for competing teams. I think that just changed!
planet-f1.com: Fernando: ‘Kimi has been lucky’
Do I think Fernando is deliberately bearding that cranky McLaren goat, Ron Dennis? Not hardly. Alonso has merely astounded me (once again) with his analytical capabilities and his different take on any particular subject. Of what do I speak?
As opposed to agreeing with conventional wisdom on McLarens miserable luck this year with all of Kimi’s engine failures (4 including today), car breakdowns (2?) and assorted other “Kimi Bad Karma” events, Ferdie thinks the exact opposite. Kimi and McLaren have been extremely lucky! How come? Because all of the engine failures have occured prior to the race, allowing McLaren the luxury of changing engines. With a little bit of truly bad luck the engines could/should have failed during the race, resulting in no points for McLaren!
What a brilliant observation, and one no doubt that will bring out the best in my favorite team’s principal owner and designated windbag, Ron Dennis. I can’t even begin to imagine his response, we can only wait with eager anticipation. Come on Ron, don’t let us down!

I think he meant “Fernando has been lucky.”
isn’t that just so true? if the engine failures were to happen during the race, kimi wouldn’t even be in contention. in fact, he would even be fighting for third position, and maybe even losing out to montoya!
