Gené in for Ralf at French GP
Written by Josh Katinger · June 30, 2004
It’s official, we can all stop wondering about Jacques Villeneuve coming back to Williams…for the French Grand Prix at least.
BMW.WilliamsF1.com: Gené to replace injured Schumacher in France
GrandPrix.com: Gene confirmed “at this weekend’s French GP”
While the team has not decided on who will be in Ralf’s car for the longer term, I think it’s safe to say that if Marc does well this weekend in France, he’ll have the seat until Ralf gets back. However, this is a very unique opportunity to test a couple of drivers under race conditions since driver points are out the window and constructors points are looking fairly hopeless as well for Williams. Frank may give Pizzonia a go…but let’s please give up on dear old Jacques.
An even more interesting possibility is suggested by GrandPrix.com. How about Gene for France and Jaguar’s Mark Webber for the rest of the season and into 2005!? The argument makes sense, but there are probably too many contractual issues to deal with…or maybe not.
