GPWC Counter Punches
Written by George Katinger · January 26, 2005
Is this getting interesting, or what? Just when Bernie seemingly administers the coup de grace to the GPWC, they pull themselves off the mat and swing back. Rather convincingly.

A convincing shot back at Bernie? How about Toyota and Honda both allying themselves with the GPWC? Allthough no formal announcement of either team joining the breakaway series, they are certainly applying the screws to Bernie and letting him know it ain’t over.
With Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Renault, and now Toyota and Honda supporting the GPWC, what is the point of Bernie signing up Minardi? And with the lure of reasonably priced engines from the car makers, why would Red Bull, Sauber, and Jordan/Midland rush into Bernies arms now? The new teams have cash funding to survive, and Sauber and Minardi have the survivor’s resilience to wait this out for the best deal.
Bernie still has a boatload of cash to sail in front of the other teams, pending the outcome of his ongoing legal struggles with the banks. The question may come down to accepting a small piece of bernie’s huge cake now or a bigger share of GPWC’s smaller pie later.
It can only get better from here, stay tuned for round three!
