Kimi’s Hijinks: Counterpoint

Written by George Katinger · January 26, 2005

Much has been printed the last few days concerning Kimi Raikkonen’s evening in London. Mostly “tut-tuts” and “How could he.”

sport.guardian.co.uk: Raikkonen’s indiscretion upholds his sport’s rakish traditions

Richard Williams has a fond look back on what “normal” behavior for the elite drivers of F1 used to be like. Unfortunately back in the day, there was not as much at stake, other then the driver’s lives racing in gasoline laden tin coffins. Who would begrudge a driver some cheap laughs when after all, it might be their last.

In today’s world of high budget sponsors and tight assed team owners there is no room for cavorting, with or without your clothes on. Especially if in Kimi’s case, Johnny Walker scotch is reportedly about to sign on as principal sponsor.
Not the message the brand wants to spread is it? Or is it? Ah the mysteries of marketing!
