Last On The Grid: Minardi Or Jordan-Midland?

Written by George Katinger · January 31, 2005

Paul Stoddart of the Minardi F1 team has expressed concerns over the Midland purchase of Jordan. What’s his worry? With the influx of Midland cash, Minardi will be further separated from the field on race day. Relax Paul, the way Midland is fouling up the team they surely must be a lock for last place.

2005: The year Minardi F1 rise from the cellar and capture ninth place in the Constructor’s championship. Nice thought isn’t it? Why would Midland fade to last? With five weeks before the season kick off race in Melbourne, Midland have no drivers or a technical director. No testing of the car whatsoever. And rumors of the wholesale departure of key personnel. Is there any chance of Midland not tanking this year? Surely not having an engine deal in place was not easy, nor the lack of sponsors. Eddie will be responsible for his share of blame, but not to the extent that Midland is fouling things up.

In honor of Eddie Jordan I will no longer call them Jordan-Midland and soil his memory with the performance of his former team this coming season. Maybe that’s the real reason for Eddie not going to Melbourne this year. Besides the discomfort of having to be a spectator, the pain of watching the team finish behind Minardi would be too much.
