Mad Max Mosley

Not mad as in angry; mad as insane. When reading his “Spin” on the insignificance of the F1 team’s boycott of Fridays FIA rules meeting, it’s laughable: If not scary.

Check out some of Max’s demented assertions.
“We gleaned a lot of useful information - probably more than if we’d had the others here,”
“It’s much easier to talk to one team. We were fortunate enough today to be able to talk to a team who have demonstrated that they have got a good understanding of Formula One, what it takes to be successful and also what it costs.”
“The FIA make the rules for 2008, that I think is very clear,” said Mosley, according to Reuters. “The sooner we make them, the better it is for everybody. The earlier people know, the less money it costs to make any change.”
Yes, it’s really a lot easier determining the future of the series with the ONLY team committed (or rather bought) for 2008 and beyond, isn’ it Max?
And it’s true, who better know the actual cost of racing then Ferrari? Which team has singlhandedly driven the cost of racing beyond everyones reach? Who currently spends more? And who knows better how to stack the regs to reduce their own costs without losing their competitive edge? Why not just have Todt & Co. send in their version of the “New” regulations and adopt them? Spare us the illusion of team meetings and consensus.
And finally Max, you can make the rules for 2008, the bigger question is for who? Who besides Ferrari will be with you and Lord Eccelstone, master of all things wheeled? Please, if there is a God in heaven, keep the teams united in their opposition to this latest affront to racing. Any chance of that happening? Doubtfull, but we can only pray.

Did you just smoke a lot of crack? For the past three years, everything the FIA has done in terms of cost cutting, and slowing the cars down, has been to cripple Ferrari, in hopes of the other teams catching up. It’s not Ferrari’s fault that they roll with the punches better than the other teams. And Ferrari doesn’t spend the most money, Toyota does. Ferrari has wisely buit it’s own tracks so that testing is not the expense it is to other teams.
The other teams have figured out that it’s up to them to bring the fight to Ferrari, not have the FIA trying to penalize the winners. Why can’t you?
Everything you point out is accurate, Tim, to a point. Why does Toyota spend the most? To try and level the field with Ferrari. If Ferrari were truly interested in reducing costs, why did they jump the GPWC ship? There are reportedly 150 million reasons.
And there is a difference between being sharp and ruthless in competition as opposed to unethical, self serving and a hurray for me screw you attitude.
Point noted. I can’t figure out why Ferrari isn’t playing ball with GPWC anymore. They probably think it’ll score them brownie points with the FIA. I’m very conflicted on this.
There are too many variables flying from too many directions, right now. And, nobody seems to have the answers that make me comfortable. Mulder said it best: “Trust No One.”
“Trust no one”…especially in F1!
Least of all trust Maximillion! He has today announced that costs are no longer an issue in F1 as 2 of the poorer teams now have vast resources to call on. He also mentioned another team, presumably Sauber, who are in a similar negotiation. So lads, no worries eh? Let Ferrari set the spending targets. And when they can no longer promote Marlboro cancer sticks they’ll quit.
It is so strange, that the BAR-Honda was left out, but Michael Schumacher, who still uses robot pilot can take part in races. Very very “strange”
I think that F1 is great! I am a McLaren/Mercedes fan, Kimi is the man. But, on to more important issuses. These people that come up with the rules have to be complete idiots.
They constantly preach safety, yet they make a rule change about tyre changes. Until the tyre manufacturers can come up with a tyre that will withstand the torture these tyres go through. The new tyre rule should and must be resended, before someone gets killed. Someone tell me where in this new rule, does safety come in to play. Apparently, they are trying to achive the drama that comes from the stupid NASCAR pile-ups. In F1 the drama will be more like devistation, ask Senna’s friends! It’s time for the fans to make a difference by speaking up and getting this rule changed before it’s too late. And everyone says I wish I had sent that email to Eccelstone? THINK ABOUT IT FRIENDS
I thought F1 was an elite group of teams trying to be the best. Now, they are just whiners and babies. Every rule change has been enacted to help the weak teams compete with Ferrari or at the very least have Ferrari lose its suppremacy. Period! In the 80’s McLaren was the best, then Williams. Did the rules change then? Nope. But because it is Ferrari - the rules change. Why don’t the other teams just admit they could not beat Ferrari without the rule changes. WHA-WHA-WHA… can I get you some cheese with that!?!
Finally, if F1 really wants to see a level playing field with respect to the tires they should do this:
Have one tire maker (say Michellin) build tires for one full weekend, the next weekend it is Bridegstones turn. And so on. This way both tire makers are in F1, there could be another maker come on board, the burden to build tires all seaason would be lessened and the championship would be won by the team/driver that can work the best with all tire makes - NOT JUST ONE BRAND!!
