Massa takes pole at Brazil GP
Written by Scott Keller · November 1, 2008
The Formula 1 schedule is coming to a dramatic close this weekend at Interlagos in Brazil, where Lewis Hamilton is fighting to hold on and win the 2008 driver’s championship. Felipe Massa did his best to make Hamilton’s clinching of the title difficult as he took pole today for the Brazilian GP.
The first round of today’s knock-out qualifying session ended with Nakajima, Button, Rosberg, Fisichella, and Sutil being eliminated first. Sebastian Bourdais pulled of a great lap near the end of Q1 to qualify 13th in the session and move on to Q2. The fastest in Q1 was Massa who ripped off a blistering lap, and set the tone for the rest of the qualifying session.
The second round saw Kovalainen set the fast time as Hamilton and Massa sandbagged. The Torro Rosso team posted great times with Vettel second quick, and Bourdais once again pulling out a late lap to put up a P8 lap time.
The stage was set for the final ten minute session. Massa held the top spot in Q3 for most of the session and he stayed there. But the entire field took their shot to de-throne Massa from P1. In the dramatic closing moments of Q3, Hamilton knocked Trulli out of second, only to be knocked out of second by Raikkonen, who was in turn knocked out of second by Trulli who took back his P2 spot from the lap before.
It was a fantastic qualifying session that dazzled the Sao Paulo crowd who were ecstatic about their countryman’s performance.
The final GP of 2008 will take place tomorrow at Interlagos, and it should be very interesting to see what happens not only in the race, but in the competition for the driver’s championship. And to make things more unpredictable, the race may be run in the wet! It’s definitely a race not to be missed.

Can Lewis throw away a Championship for the second season in a row? Unlikely, but stranger things have happened in “down to the wire” seasons.
If Massa does take the title I will have a giggle, not at Lewis’s misfortune, but at Ron Dennis. His smug, self centred persona is unbearable at the best of times…….but with his lad as WC? AARRGGH!
