Mediocrity Is Not An Option!

Sound like one of Ron Dennis’ bold statements concerning Team McLaren performance? Right team, wrong guy!

planet-f1.com: Kimi warns McLaren

Yes the warning comes from a top team member of McLaren, but it’s Kimi Raikonnen.

“I have lots of options but before deciding I want to see the level of competitiveness of McLaren,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

Pretty bold talk for a guy who’s either got a former world champion as a teammate next year, or potentially looking for a drive elsewhere. The car looks really great with the new chrome finish paint, the aero package appears other worldly, the Michelins are performing up to if not better than last year, the only lingering doubt is the Mercedes power plant. Yes Norbert, if Kimi bales on the team it will be due to your underpowered exploding mill.

I am sure Ferrari, Toyota, or even BMW will jump at the chance to sign up the Flying Finn in a nanosecond and shower him with millions to boot. All the pressure has to be on poor Norbert to deliver the power package for Kimi and Juan to succeed. If Kimi goes at the end of ‘06 I predict that Haug will follow, a decision not of his own choosing. The price of failure in F1 is extreme, Jah?

I think he knows that nobody doubts his talent & he is basically putting MM on notice.

After several seasons of near misses I would not be surprised to see him pack his bags, even if he is champion in 06.A prancing pony for 07?

My take is he’ll go with who performs the best. Honda, Ferrari, Toyota, even BMW, will all have seats available in ‘07. It all depends on how they perform in ‘06. The prospect of losing him over engine failures has to keep poor Norbert up at night.

he will need all the luck and most importantly reliability he can get.if mclaren fail to deliver a reliable car i most certainly believe that raikkonen will sign with ferrari-if he hasn’t done so already.it doesn’t matter who his teammate is in 07,he will outqualify and out race them, even if it’s schumacher or alonso.

Got something to say?
