Michelin runners boycott Monza?

Written by admin · August 31, 2003

No doubt as a way of bringing added presssure to the FIA’s latest rules adjustment regarding tire contact patch measurements, Michelin is suggesting that all the the teams shod on Michelins may boycott the Monza race on 9-14.

Right, Williams and McLaren are going to be spectators as they watch their championship hopes ride off uncontested with Ferrari? Not to mention the outrage of the drivers involved?

Crashnet: Michelin runners to boycott Monza?

I think this has been brewing in the Ferrari-Bridgestone camp for sometime and deliberately timed for the last three races of the year. I also thought it very out of character the way Michael has quietly accepted his cars lack of performance, especially in Hungary. Much was made over Alonso’s lapping of Michael, but Michael very obviously allowed Alonso to pass. This is very much in keeping with my latest tire conspiracy theory: If we can’t beat them on the track, call the rules into question.

There is absolutely no way in hell Williams and McLaren will stay home for Monza or any of the remaining events. They will race with the tires they have and the championship will no doubt be settled in court.
