Now I’ve Heard It All

No, it’s not Michael Schumacher retiring, Kimi joining Ferrari, Alonso joining McLaren, or Super Aguri beating Midland in the final team standings.
planet-f1.com: ‘STR have early edge’
My wonderment is over Squadra Toro Rosso’s lofty expectations by its half owner, Dietrich Mateschitz. He expects them to out perform his own Red Bull team this year, at least in the early going.
“However, the chance to score points at the start of the year is better for Toro Rosso than it is for Red Bull Racing.”
In its prior identity, the Minardi team won no races, scored no podiums, and if I’m not mistaken only a handful of points (38) over a 20 year existence. I have been keenly optimistic over STR’s use of the restricted V10’s but not to the point where they will outperform Red Bull. My joy will be seeing them whip up on Midland, Super Aguri, and maybe BMW Sauber if they should stumble.
But what’s the point of racing if you do not have goals and ambitions? Rock on Dietrich, from your mouth to the racing gods’ ears.

I think the reason STR will have an edge over RBR is RBR never completed a full race distance in testing. And the first few races are among the hottest. Whereas STR are using a car that’s mostly RB1, and a rock solid engine.
I’m very interested to see what effect Adrian Newhey will have on a car he did not design & one that has been problematic through the winter. Toyota’s Gascoyne managed mid season turn arounds at Benetton & Jordan in similar situations. Regardless of anything that happens in 06 I can’t help but think a Newehy designed, Ferrari powered Red Bull may be a force in 07.
