The joker in the pack this season is, how good is a engine on it’s second outing? Obviously a reliable two race engine can be built, but will it be kicking out the desired ponies. We are going to have to watch the performance of “second race” engines closely. There must be a fine balance between turning up the wick & stretching out engine life. The North American rounds are going to be a bicth because Canada is murder on engines & it is followed by those high reving bursts down the main straight at Indy.
One thing is certain, Renault are clearly confident about their on track performance as they were happy, in the week, to sit out practice sessions & keep their powder dry.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for Williams/Cosworth they really deserve a good showing before the financial might of the manufacturers engine development programmes kicks in.
