Team Assassination, Aussie Style

Written by George Katinger · February 12, 2007

Talk about your angry F1 pilots! Since his departure from Williams F1 Mark Webber has not had anything kind to say about his former team. Here’s his latest slap.

foxsports.com: Webber calls Williams second rate

I suppose Webber’s anger and vitriol are somewhat justified considering his career may be over after this year, unless he can find some magic in the Red Bull Renault powered Newey designed chassis. If his F1 racing reputation is fatally damaged by his experience at Williams, is attacking the team any way of reviving any hope for the future?

Especially when rumors suggest that this years Red Bull entry may not be that competitive, and Williams are on the rebound. I can see Rosberg and Wurz flashing Mark the bird as they pass him on track! If they can manage to get around him without contact!

Maybe it’s just me, but when I am struggling in any situation I look for present day solutions as opposed to attacking the past. Does he have any advisor available who can tell him to shut it, let him know how bad it makes him look when carrying on like this?

Tis far better to labor in the shadows of mediocrity than burst in the flames of self immolation. So endeth the lesson.

Good advice George, Webber has usually been astute enough to keep his opinions to himself, perhaps frustration got the better of him. Further, a journalist can write up the selected quotes in a manner that makes the tone far more aggressive than the context in which they were initially delivered.

This year is do or die for Webber because the excuses have run out, to my mind the most damage that has been done to his career has not been the lack of performance in the cars provided by Jaguar & Williams, in each case he did a decent job with a poor mount. The biggest blow to his reputation, IMHO, was the season paired with quick Nick in the BMW Williams. Weber did not exactly come out of that pairing as the definitive winner, at best a comparison between the two drivers could be described as inconclusive, at worst………..Nick came out on top. Mark may have gotten the better of Rosberg last season but that is to be expected, Nico is a rookie.

So, regardless of the performance of Red Bull over the rest of the field, can Mark stamp his position over the veteran DC this season?

Mark seems to be cursed at Monaco, Nick demoted him to 3rd in 05 with a killer pass coming out of the tunnel & in a 06 a possible win, definite podium, went up in flames with a exploding Cosworth. He also seems to have the ability to punch well above his weight in qualifying & then throw the position away at the start.

Mark will go to his grave regretting not listening to his manager Briatore & accepting the Renault seat he was offered.

Let’s see… Webber thinks of Williams as a Toyota B team because they’re using a Toyota lump. What exactly keeps a person from calling Red Bull a Renault B team? It’s a matter semantics and bad logic.

Mark Webber seems to be full of… well… bad logic. Good logic would have had his rump in a Renault.

I’ve decided not to listen to anything drivers have to say this season. It’s time for some of them to shut and drive, or shut up and leave.

Right you are Willow , I was confusing Nick’s pass with the move he pulled on Alonso, (had to do a google search)

    Grand Prix:-
“They say there are no passing opportunities in Monaco, that you have to rely on strategy. Well, Williams’ Nick Heidfeld put a beautiful, clean pass on Alonso on lap 71. Quick Nick has really developed into a fine racer. He finished the race in second place while his teammate Mark Webber had his first ever podium finish in third place”

Got something to say?
