Panther Racing’s Ace Will Don Team Colors for Brazil

The Indy Racing League’s Vitor Meira will hop aboard a car owned by two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi’s A1 Team Brazil in Shanghai next weekend (April 15th).

Fittipaldi made the announcement from team headquarters in Brasilia on Friday (April 6th). The drive will be Meira’s first for the Brazilian A1GP entrant. Countrymen Nelson Piquet Jr and former Indianapolis pole-sitter Bruno Junqueira have both driven for the team.

Meira will be partnered with young Brazilian female sensation Bia Figueiredo. The twenty-two year old woman will fill the “rookie” role for the team, which allows additional practice and set-up time for the team.

The Shanghai round marks the next to last race of the A1GP schedule. The season concludes in Brands Hatch on April 29th. The races are broadcast on a delayed basis over SpeedTV in the United States.


The A1GP race in Shanghai begins Friday, April 13th with a rookie practice, followed by a one-hour open practice. There is a one-hour practice on Saturday, April 14th, prior to qualifying which is comprised of four 15-minute sessions with the best two laps for each driver establishing the grid. The week will culminate on Sunday, April 15th, with the 20-minute Sprint Race in the morning and the 70-minute Feature Race in the afternoon.

The A1GP race in Shanghai can be seen in the USA, Canada, and Mexico on Wednesday, April 17th, at 4PM on the Speed Channel.
