Watch Your Back Kimi!
Written by George Katinger · August 29, 2008
Luca Montezemolo has announced that Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikonnen will be Ferrari F1 drivers next year. This is the same guy that stated Michael Schumacher could drive for the Scuderia forever.
I guess “forever” is a relative term to Luca as Michael discovered during his unceremonius dumping at the end of the 2006 season. I consider this announcement as a salve to Kimi’s wounded ego, that Ferrari may be considering dropping him next year in favor of Alonso. It is also a good way to try and motivate Kimi to produce better results for the balance of the races.
But you can be damned sure if Ferrari lose the constructor’s title due to Kimi’s poor season performances the next announcement will be: “Ferrari have elected to drop Kimi Raikonnen for the 2009 season and have retained (insert name of driver) with a two year contract.”
The price of failure is steep in Maranello. Just ask Michael.

The Italian press keep harping on about Alonso having a option for 2010. I’m not convinced it’s true, as Alonso has the drivers market for 2009 revolving around him…..& who would agree to sign him for one year.
You could argue that Renault have done just that for 2008, but I’think that is tied to a get-out clause in his contract based on performance.
Who knows? Is it possible Kimi plans to retire in 2010? IMHO, Kubica is the dark horse in a top team’s medium to long term plans.
All this talk will go away if Kimi gets his act together & finds his lost form. Ferrari & the Italian press are impossible. In 98, when Schui broke his leg & Irvine started winning, they were all saying “Who needs Schumacher”.
Welcome home George!!!!
Peter wasn’t it ‘99 that MS broke his leg?
Alonso’s desirablility factor has dimished since last even with his few shining moments this year.
I agree kubica is one the top picks in future years, but BMW seem to have a lock on his services for the near future.
Now Vittles on the other hand seems to be a very possible candidate to partner Messup in the short term if the Kimister decides to go partying sooner than later. Then there is Glock putting on an impressive show recently also, with Toyoter at “make it work or leave F1″ clause on the table (remember Alonso’s big story about signing for Mclaren because Renault was unsure if they wanted to continue in F1), Glock seems ripe for poaching now.

I miss the “edit” feature the forum used to have.
I read somewhere that Dr Mario keeps the drivers at BMW on a short contract. I’m nearly certain Kubica is a free agent for 2010.
Ahhh - George lives! Welcome home.
Kimmi on his worst day makes Kubrica and Vittles seem outclassed.
The guy is defending World Champion, for goodness sake!!!
As for Ferrari, they will do what is best for them - like every other team.
Loyalty??? Are some of you reading Grimms again??
Like no crying in baseball there is no loyalty in F1.
George, do you need to get a life so soon back?
Ah, I forget, one must be provocative, mustn’t one?
