What I Vowed Never To Do Again.

Written by George Katinger · June 6, 2007

The title of this post is a strong hint that whatever I promised not to do will end within the next few lines of text. And you can blame a certain retired F1 driver.

We are at the Wednesday before the Canadian GP, with not much interesting news available. So if it’s Canada, and an F1 race, and a retired F1 driver pushing me to break sacred vows, can you guess his identity?

The person is LeBebe, that piece of dung stuck on the heel of my shoe that I can never seem to shake loose, Jacques Villeneuve. Seems like some reporter in Canada was dumb enough to ask the end all be all of Formula One his opinion of rookie phenom Lewis Hamilton. And can you believe it, he actually had something negative to opine. Actually quite a lot. From Autosport.com:

“When will these chopping moves stop?” Villeneuve told this week’s Autosport magazine. “Lewis is not getting penalised for these things and his behaviour off the startline has started to look the way Michael [Schumacher] used to.

“So far, he has been lucky, so we’ll see if it carries on. He makes progressive moves that would have got some of the other drivers black-flagged.”

What a guy this Villeneuve, eh? Not only does he slap at a promising talented new driver, he also manages a groin kick to his old nemesis Michael Schumacher. A two-fer from LeBebe. Let’s compare what JV did in his career compared to Hamilton. JV raced for ten years (1996-2006) competing in 165 events. He had 11 wins and 23 podiums and that one driver’s championship in ‘97 that he spends the rest of his life reminding us of. That averages out to 1.1 wins and 2.3 podiums per year. And if you discount his time at Williams the averages for both would be zero.

And he’s got the cojones to critique Hamilton who has podiums in all five of his first ever F1 races? Go spend time with your family, make more music, even try and land that NASCAR Busch ride you keep referring to, but leave all of your nonsensical F1 observations where they belong. In your over inflated head.

As for my vow, I promised not to write, comment, or refer to anything relative to or about Jacques Villeneuve ever again. I apologize for my weaknesses. Is there a 12 step program available for my brand of frailties? I promise to try harder in the future. As for all of JV’s fans (yes, both of you), if you feel like commenting on my fair and unbiased observations spare me, it won’t make any difference.

Whew, I’m feeling much better now!

UPDATE: More reasons to jump on JV

I left this off the original post last night. What really pushed me over the edge was reading the LeMan test times. Not only did Seabass post a new track record, he substantially outpaced fellow Peugeot driver JV. LeBebe’s comment?

“We weren’t looking for the absolute fastest time here so I didn’t get involved in any setting up work,” said the 1997 Formula 1 world champion. “I started with a couple of laps aimed primarily at learning the track, and I then went back out later in the day to do a series of long runs to see how the tires evolved.

“My biggest concern was the amount of traffic about. That’s something new to me, especially since certain cars were taking some pretty bizarre lines.”

Don’t ya love it when the guy starts setting up his failure excuses before they even qualify?

You @#($&$! How dare you insult the greatest driver (in his mind) to ever live?

On a serious note. OK, not so serious. What made you think that anything that comes out of his mouth would be intelligent?

I’d love for someone to place a gag order on Jacques that really involved a physical gag. Preferrably of the ball variety. How’s that for a mental image?

I too read JV’s ramblings at Autosport & my first was……this will set George off.

I think we should keep JV around for sheer comedic value. If JV wants to make a fool of himself - more so then when he was in F1 - who am I to stand in the way. :-)

What is even stranger about JV’s comments is that (at least to my eyes) Hamilton has not done anything, at the start of a race, that could be labled as unethical IMHO.Agressive/competitive? Yeah…but hardly dirty. Maybe JV can see something we can’t?

    Naahhhhhhh!

“Maybe JV can see something we can’t?”

Yeah, a future multiple world champion who won’t waste his time and short career promoting himself and a meager record like JV has done. Because we’re in Montreal this weekend I expect all manner of comment from the jealous little twit.

    Give me strength!

George: “Is there a 12 step program available for my brand of frailties?”

Why yes there is, it’s the same program I had to endure prior tp writing my enviro-weenie post and agreement with the FIA.

Peter: “I too read JV’s ramblings at Autosport & my first was……this will set George off.”

What am I, chopped liver? I’m considered above going off at the latest JV nonsense?

Actually I started to write a post about V but after the 2-3 ref to his given name or reasonably facsimile of it I had to make an emergency run to the can.

Shortly thereafter I deleted the post.

Jacques knows of what he speakes. After all he bested the goon punter parker cheater fair and square and this sticks in the craw of all the cheating goons fans.

“…goon punter parker cheater…”. Excellent! Don’t think I’ve heard Schumi described quite like that before. But as you say, JV may know what he speakes, now if only he could have won a race in a car that didn’t have “Williams” on it, I’d consider giving him some respect.

But under no circumstance can you remotely compare JV and MS, on any level. MS has it all, JV can only wish he’d done things differently, maybe he would be more than a legend in his own mind. He’s turned into a bitter troll of a man with nothing good to say about anyone.

We must never forget that JV won the Indy 500, the Champ car series and the World Championship. Have you done the same? I wonder what your qualifications are to allow you to make such critical comments.
I too wish JV would keep his mouth shut sometimes but would rather have him say something, anything, in order to keep things interesting.
    Regards, Richard.

Now the bitter little JV is at it again. JV = 1 World Championship in a superior car.
