Why Schumacher And Ferrari Will Continue Domination

Written by George Katinger · January 4, 2005

They flat out will out hustle every other team on the grid. Hustle as in work, and hustle in the way they continue to con and out think everyone else.

And the way Ferrari are committed to spend money in support of maintaining their dominance is obviously what makes it all possible. You can change the rules all you want to, change the engine package, aero limits and tire requirements until the sky falls, but it won’t matter. In the end it will create a greater gap between Maranello and the rest then previously existed.

Why? Testing, testing, and more testing. Ferrari will take the new limitations and drive the cars until the wheels fall off to accumulate the data they need to optimize the cars setups and variables. With two facilities available in their back yard, no one else can match Ferrari’s access to track time. Hence their unwillingness to limit testing. End of story.

Oh yeah, then there’s that other minor factor. Michael “I still want to race” Schumacher. With an undimished hunger for competition and the will to win, he will personaly spur the team to develop the best car on the grid. Failure is not an option. Check out this quote:

“I am definitely not thinking about quitting. Like I’ve said I enjoy what I do, it’s fun and I love my sport. Nothing could be a stronger motivation.”

“And in regard to the successes all I can say is: that doesn’t count in sports. You can’t rest on your achievements. The next race is always the most important.”

Michaels ability to send shudders of trepidation through the competing teams cannot be underestimated. The seemingly innocent comment is laid out there for the most impact on the opposition. And it has in the past been amazingly effective.

The other teams will make improvements, no doubt. Williams and McLaren cannot possibly develop worse cars then they did last year, Renault and BAR Honda will advance. The big variables are the aero and tire changes. And Ferrari will bring to Australia a car that far exceeds the performance of anything else on the grid. It will take the competition to mid season to catch up, and by then the chase for driver and constructor’s titles will be almost out of reach.

Could this prediction be any more wrong??? Racing is as much an art as it is a science. The writer needs to remember that.
