Ben Spies earns second World Superbike pole

Written by Scott Keller · March 13, 2009

The Superbike World Championship resumes this week for Round two at the Losail Desert in Qatar. The super-fast rookie, Ben Spies, took his second pole in a row today, and is making an early splash in SBK 2009.

In race 1 at the opening round at Phillip Island, Australia, Spies had a terrible race start, and got involved in a lap one incident after starting from the pole that took him out of contention. The Texan rebounded to win race 2, and is looking to keep the momentum going in Qatar.

Ben Spies (Yamaha World Superbike): “The most important thing is being on the front row with this many fast guys. I almost ruined my lap but we eventually got the job done. Race pace is looking promising, which is important but I feel sure it’s going to be a hard race tomorrow. You still have to search for the speed and find the limit in Superpole, I don’t know anything different, it’s the only one I’ve done but it’s working well for me so far.”

Same day tape-delayed coverage of SATURDAY’s race will be televised by SPEED at 4PM ET.
