Hall of Fame Racing and Yates Together in 2009?

Written by Ben Bomberger · January 12, 2009

I was browsing the Internet and just came across an article that said the following, “Two other teams, Hall of Fame Racing and Yates Racing, are forging a relationship that is expected to include sponsorship from Ask.com, one of the few companies with new money to spend in the sport,” (Sports Business Journal).

OK, where in the world did this come from? And why would Hall of Fame Racing want to switch out of Toyotas?

The bottom line with this news is that it’s got to be one of the more surprising moves, if in fact it’s true.

HOF was once in cahoots with Joe Gibbs Racing, thus the move to Toyota last season.

The team brought in J.J. Yeley and struggled mightily in 2008, eventually falling out of the top-35.

What did this team do wrong? They fired Tony Raines. Raines had this team solidly in the top-35, in fact he was 29th at the conclusion of the season.

If this team forms a partnership with Yates, no offense to Yates fans, but this is a step in the wrong direction.

This team is much better off sticking with Toyota, who has vowed to do everything in its power to bring home a championship with a Camry.

That’s all I have on this for now, I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know if anything else develops.
