Alex Lloyd, driving the Rahal/Ganassi collaborative effort, topped the timing and scoring on Monday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the annual Rookie Orientation Program came to an end.

Jaime Camara of Conquest Racing suffered the day’s only major crack-up. Camara lost control of the Dallara/Honda in Turn 1 of the Speedway, spinning backwards into the SAFER barrier and incurring major damage to the rear end of the car.

He was transported to Methodist Hospital for xrays and released; but will have to clear trackside medical Tuesday morning before returning to the cockpit.

Also in the news: the death of Newman Haas Lanigan engineer Davey Evans, apparently of a stroke after an early AM fight in an Indianapolis saloon.

The death was ruled a homicide. Police are investigating.
