The Indianapolis 500 will feature two pace cars in 2008. Both are Corvettes, but one is an ethanol-powered concept car with a novel and chameleonesque paint job that changes color in different light conditions and viewing angles.

The convertible Z06 features the familiar black and silver graphics of the 1978 Corvette Indy pace car, one of the most popular and best-known models ever for the Chevrolet sports car marque.

The Z06 E85 concept pace car operates on an ethanol fuel blend similar to the pure ethanol that powers the Indy Racing League from 2007.

On race day (May 25th, 2008) the cars will alternate the pace-car chores, with the conventional Z06 convertible starting the race and pacing as necessary up to the one hundredth of the Indy 500’s two hundred laps; and the Z06 E85 hardtop concept car moving into position from lap 101 to the finish.
