Junqueira At Indy 500

Bruno will be heading up the Newman-Haas effort for their return to the Indy 500. Frankly, I think they would have been better off with Sebastian Bourdais behind the wheel, in spite of Bruno’s 2002 pole at Indy. Who knows, they are preparing two cars, maybe Sebastian will get to show up poor Bruno yet again.

More impressive to me than the driver announcement is the team announcement included in the article. Sounds like Carl Haas intends to make a statement. The question is for who’s benefit, the IRL regulars or his erstwhile partner Paul Newman, who wants no part of anything to do with the IRL. Even if Carl and Bruno manage a victory, Newman will not be swayed into the IRL. He is probably the last Die-hard Champ Car owner who will probably retire or find other forms of racing to occupy his time, rather than play with Tony George.
Kind of like Butch and Sundance’s last stand. I do like a man with character and principles, right Roger?
