Machine Green Dominates Final Nazareth Race
Written by Josh Katinger · August 29, 2004
Though Roger Penske had his ship righted for qualifying at Nazareth, the “new guard” in team ownership, Andretti Green Racing, sent the Penske squad away from the final race at Nazareth with no trophies. The Nazareth track, which Penske designed, will be shut down after this event. However, the sentimentality of this win is just as great for local resident Michael Andretti whose family has made this area of Pennsylvania their home for many years.

Part of “The Captain’s” undoing was a faulty pit stop for Hornish when Sam tried to exit the pit too early and rip his fuel hose. One of the fuel men was doused with water after he was doused with fuel. Penske himself threw the first bucket.
While I wish the Penske team had a better showing for the final trip to “Roger’s” track, I’m pretty happy for Andretti too. Michael called the win the biggest of his career as an owner. There is no question that Michael Andretti was a great driver, but the speed with which he has excelled as an owner is pretty staggering too. With his second place finish Tony Kanaan is coming closer to his, and Andretti’s dream of their first IRL Championships.

I think it’s time for “The Captain” to turn his sea liscense and sail a desk. Leave the on track racing to the young aggressive guys.
Makes me wonder if the teams performance is mediocre because of him or if they’d be worse without him.
