More Success for Hornish?
Written by George Katinger · January 6, 2004
Well I don’t imagine anyone thinks Sam went to Penske to fall on his ass. Least of all Roger or Sam. The interesting part of this article points out that Sam will have a team mate in Castroneves for the first time in five years. How will he interract with another driver as a team mate? I was surprised by his answer…
“Basically, I stay away from all drivers,” Hornish said. “I don’t really hang out with them outside the track or even outside the race car. Probably the closest I get to those guys is when we’re getting ready for driver introductions. That’s pretty much the only time I talk to them.
“Basically, I don’t want to get into a situation where I feel bad if I beat one of them and if anybody got hurt. I don’t want it to affect how I drive a racecar because I’m worried about one of my friends that got in an accident. I’ve got enough friends at home and I don’t feel I need to hang out with any (drivers).
“We’ll (Castroneves) work together and do the best we can to get along, but I don’t know if we’ll be playing tennis or golf together. That’s just my way and it wouldn’t matter who my teammate was. I don’t know if I could get close to anybody.”
It sure sounds like the man is totally focused on winning, even to the point of alienating his competitors. I sure hope it continues working for him.

I think it’s great…just how I want my drive to be! F-em all…just get the win!
