The rumors of a jump to the Indy Racing League’s Indy Pro Series turned out to be true as the reigning Champ Car Atlantics’ champion Raphael Matos announced Friday (January 18th) that he’s going to drive for Gary Peterson’s AFS Racing (affiliated with IndyCar juggernaut Andretti Green Racing) in the 2008 IPS season.

The move was described by Matos as “…the best thing that’s happened in my career,” and deflates the two million dollar prize (or credit) he was awarded as Atlantics champion.

Matos’ season begins with Indy Pro Series testing next week, leading into the 2008 campaign’s debut at Homestead/Miami Speedway on March 29th.

Talk about a blow to the credibility of Champ Car. The 2007 Atlantics Champ can’t get a ride in the next rung of the Champ Car ladder, even with $2 Million to blow??

That is…..if they really had the $2 Million to give him. Seems doubtful now.

Got something to say?
