Dixon’s best lap of 214.164 mph came as temperatures fell into the high eighties, the wind abated somewhat (to 12 mph from earlier gusting to 25 mph), and the lights came on at the beautiful 1.5 mile oval just north of Fort Worth, Texas.
Rahal/Letterman’s Scott Sharp made good on his promise in USA Today this week that his team would rebound to the top of the speedcharts by posting the second-quickest lap around the Texas Motor Speedway tonight, turning heads with a 213.164 mph clocking on the fifth of sixty-two laps he turned during the second practice session of the day.
Remarkably, the second session was the only session of practice that Sharp materially participated in, as his first practice in the hot Texas sun in the earlier mid-afternoon stanza saw him turn only a few laps to leak-test the car before returning to the garages.

Practice Session Two Results
Dixon teammate Dan Wheldon (212.692 mph) was third-quick on the evening, with young Marco Andretti looking confident again as he motored to a lap of 212.680 mph just ahead of teammate Tony Kanaan (212.669 mph) in fifth spot.
Behind them came Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves, Danica Patrick, Dario Franchitti, Sam Hornish, Jr and Jeff Simmons
