Straight Outta Philly: It’s the Nashville LiveBlog!

Written by Money CJ · July 14, 2007

nashville_event.jpg4:15 PM: That’s right–we got beer, we got wireless thanks to the Crowne Plaza Center City, and we’re gonna go green with a LiveBlog for y’all around 7PM EDT. Do join! All ya gotta do to play along is come right back here at that time and refresh your browser every few minutes throughout the race. We’ll be on IM as well at SoDamnIndy if you want to share your own stellar observations…

In the meantime, we’re going out to Geno’s for a Cheesesteak. Philly is fun. Last night MoneyDaughter and I went to the Fillmore to see Dolores O’Riordan (former lead singer of the Cranberries and one of the hottest chicks ever to be involved in showbiz). She was awesome…

Anyway, behold below a few pics we took earlier to illustrate just how beautiful it is today in the City O’ Brotherly Love…we’ll be back shortly…

6:41 PM: Settling in after our delicious trip to Geno’s, we find the following e-mail from our Colleague Allan Brewer who is on the ground at Nashville Super Speedway:

Whaddup, CJ? Hotter than hell down here and humid too. Clouds are lingering like they might want to cause mischief…we’ll see. Firey crash involving Brad Jaeger and Al III with about ten laps remaining in the IPS race…Jaeger’s going to the hospital for Xrays–condition unknown right now but could be bad…

We say a prayer for Brad…keep the updates coming, Allan!

7:05 PM: The IM ain’t working. Sorry. E-mail me your witty observations if you like…

7:30 PM: And we’re LIVE from Nashville Super Speedway for the Firestone Indycar 200! Much talk about the ‘rivalry’ between Sam and TK (OMG! They’re right next to each other on the grid!! OMG!) We’re just happy that the folks at Nashville didn’t whore this little incident out like Gossage did at Texas after Danica and Dan had their run-in…thank you, Nashville!

7:34 PM: Rain. Fuck. Now it’s all about filler–let’s rehash the incident to the ‘enth degree and talk to the whole world about TK and Sam. Yawn. If this goes on much longer, I’m signing off and headed back to South Street, yo.

7:39 PM: Rain delay, but Marty promises this one will be brief. Concrete + banking = quick dry. Color us skeptical. SHOT!

7:42 PM: TK’s talkin to Vince under the umbrella. Net-net: TK and Sam are now officially TIGHT. Mutual respect, etc. (That’s nice…can we be done with this now?)

7:45 PM: (Nope). Over to The Root who talked to Sam, Sr after Church, etc etc etc…good GAWD. Please make it stop. Oh, and from where we sit, no matter what Marty says, this race ain’t goin’ down any time soon…Cats and Dogs are quite literally falling from the Nashville shy. It rains in Nashville–who knew?!

7:50 PM: OK, our crankiness is dialed back a notch by 1) the awesome Firestone commercial that always gets us pumped and, 2) STELLAR footage of Dario at the helm of the ‘copter….PIMP!

7:52 PM: Cars headed back to garage. Money CJ headed back out on the town in Philly if the situation doesn’t change in about 30 minutes.

8:00 PM: NICE interview w the Iceman, who’s seeking shelter in the TCG pits. Whoa, whoa–did he just make a fat joke about Floyd? Dude…easy now…

8:05 PM: Darren Manning and Jack snuggling in the ABC Supply garage. Most air ever for Manning, and Manning has a lot to say. So much, in fact, that Jack has to eventually cut him off…you go, Danger Mouse!!

8:09 PM: Sarah Fisher now gets the lengthy interview treatment. Props to ESPN for some thoughtful crisis management here…would be really easy to just put Bre and Wheldon together for an hour or so…

8:14 PM: Rain has subsided. Trucks on the track. Dixon-Castroneves ‘marriage thing’ montage…complete with Wheldon talking shit about it (”I don’t have time to be looking at engagement rings!”). This is actually getting kind of beautiful. Booth reporting that we’re looking at an hour-plus till we can go green. We are undecided as to whether we are willing to hang or not….

8:20 PM: This just in from my colleague, Mr. Brewer, from the ground:

“50-50 we race here tonight, IMO”

“Ashley’s resplendent in her sundress (poor choice of attire this evening, ma’am) and sunhat. That looks like the same hat I’ve seen before. I wonder if she has others? Maybe we could pass “the hat” to get her another??

Otherwise it’s your usual rain delay scene here….approximately sixty of us, huddled in a glorifious garden shed typing away at computers as the rain falls…Later….Maybe. -AB”

8:27 PM: Jeff Simmons and Scott (Lookin’) Sharp are getting air. Like, extended air. Wow. Wow. Wowowow…

8:32 PM: WHELDON SEZ: He and Marco are really the only single studs in the series….notes that a lot of the female fans “need lovin”… actually embarasses Vince. Awesome moment. Like, a truly Great Moment In Sports. God bless you, Thunda.

8:35 PM: Danica and Marco get air. Jack & Co. going to have to start over again with driver interviews if this goes on much longer. Find Buddy!

Track still looking pretty damn wet. Wondering when ESPN’s broadcast window closes…running out of beer also…this is not good.

8:39 PM: Sam gets air. Again. Lots of smiles from Sam tonight. Looking and sounding like the Old Sam we know and love. Nice to see…we were kinda WTF-ing on Sam over the last few weeks.

8:48 PM: Ed Carpenter, sporting a Colts championship ring that he apparently bummed off a friend, gets air. With Quattro. Bre seems confused by these two strange men in Firesuits. Shit’s getting really wierd…track, apparently, is drying. Still, we are not convinced…though we are digging these new Patron commercials.

8:56 PM: MoneyDaughter here. Dad’s getting a beer (figures). Danica’s GoDaddy.com commercial totally sucks, and so does the music playing in the background. Shit…here comes my dad. I better run. Bye!

9:01 PM: Pay no mind to that young freak. Oh…Kosuke gets air? The apocalypse is nigh, my friends. Oh, and it’s also raining again. This thing is not going down. Really…it’s not. At the very least, the world got to know more than four ICS drivers a little better tonight!

9:07 PM: It’s pouring in Nashville. We’ll be on the road for most of the day tomorrow, so we’ll unfortunately (or…fortunately, depending on your POV) be unable to LiveBlog it. At the moment, IRL officials are reporting that they still hope to get the race in tonight (yeah, right), as ESPN reports that they’ll be signing off in about 20 minutes. As for us, we’re signing off right now. It’s a beautiful evening in Philly and to paraphrase my Boy Dan Wheldon, there are lots of female fans out there who need lovin’. Peace out, my dear friends…we’ll toss it to our esteemed colleague Allan Brewer to keep ya up to date on tomorrow’s doings at Nashville Super Speedway…

11:45 PM: Just arrived back in the room to discover that, as predicted, it became official. Race will go down tomorrow. We’ve known this since about 6:45, but it’s all good…we will probably post something after we know who has won (and after we get home, since we’ll be on a train for several hours). Between the rain and the wrecks, this is certainly an unusual season, isn’t it?

Going to update here with good news: Brad Jaeger was xrayed offsite and has been released to return to the raceway and rejoin the Brian Stewart Racing team.

    Great, great news!!!

When Dan said that I laughed so hard, love him. You know he can’t be taking himself seriously, he’s just being cheeky, as my mom would say “He’s a bit of a Jack the Lad.”

Good to hear about Brad Jaeger, Saw the wreck and was amazed he escaped injury and very glad that he escaped injury.

Are Wheldon and Marco really the only single drivers?

Got something to say?
