Another Busch Hits the Headlines
Written by John Davison · November 13, 2005
Kyle Busch added to the headline-grabbing power of the family name by winning his second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway. Leading the last 28 laps ahead of Greg Biffle, he headed a total of 63 laps for three occassions.
The younger Busch brother’s victory came in his 41st start, just ten races after his first win, at California Raceway. Second place finisher Biffle dominated the race, leading 189 of the 312 laps, making this the fourth race in 2005 when he led the most laps.
Tony Stewart maintained his lead in points, Jimmie Johnson maintained his second-place stand, at 52 points hehind Stewart. Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Mark Martin all held their positions but Martin is no longer mathematically within reach of the Cup, at 162 points behind Stewart. Johnson, Edwards and Biffle can overtake Stewart mathematically, if one of them wins the season finale at Homestead-Miami after leading the most laps and Stewart finishes 43rd in the race without leading a single lap.
