Brian Vickers And Crew Get Fined
Written by Rocky Kitts · October 22, 2008
NASCAR took the sledgehammer out of the shed and brought it down squarely on the head of Brian Vickers and his crew after finding a pretty glaring problem with Vickers’ car upon inspection. The problem? The team went Woodstock on the car’s sheet metal and dipped it in acid so it would be lighter.
Yeah. No one was going to catch that. Except, of course, they did catch it, and Vickers and the Red Bull team received a pretty hefty punishment. From ESPN:
NASCAR docked Brian Vickers 150 driver points and fined crew chief Kevin Hamlin $100,000 because the Red Bull Racing team dipped its sheet metal in acid to make it lighter than required. Team owner Dietrich Mateschitz also was docked 150 owner points, while Hamlin and car chief Craig Smokstad were both suspended indefinitely. Red Bull Racing general manager Jay Frye said the team accepted responsibility and would not appeal the penalties.
Vickers was in (sic) the process of having his best career finish, but now it looks like he’s going to lose not only the position, but with the loss of his crew chief and car chief, it’s likely to be a long four remaining races.
They should of dipped it in Red Bull instead. Then we could find out if that stuff really does give you wings.
Oh and this is for Karl; Vickers dropped from 15th spot to 17th spot.
So sorry for the missed info.

Does your site even have an editor?

?? “on the…” Or do you mean “in the…”
?? “lose THE position..”? Which position? You never stated what position he was set to finish in at season’s end.
They should of dipped it in Red Bull instead.
?? “Should of…” Perhaps you meant “Should have..”
Dude, get a life. I’m not trying to be a journalist here, if you want that read a newspaper, or better yet, light one on far (that’s southern for fire) and play with it.
Correction:
Karlt10 should have been able to find a date to the prom, but he was unable to do so due to the fact that no one with a pulse would talk to him.
karlt10,
Please feel free to comment on the subject content of any posting here at FM.com. It would be appreciated if you keep your grammatical corrections to yourself. Future criticisms will be consigned to the trash heap, by me. Yes, we have editorial capacity but we do not routinely edit our contributor’s material nor do we delete the sometimes chippy comments of our readers.
Except your inappropriate comments in the future.
By the way, do you have any interest in racing at all?
It’s quite telling -that when faced with an obvious error- the person in question attempts to insult those who find the error, instead of simply having the maturity and character to acknowledge their mistake. And if you are not trying to be a journalist, then you and FastMachines need to make it obvious -beyond the content- that you are not a journalist.
Thanks for making it all to clear that FastMachines is not an actual news site and instead is a source of amateur blogging.
Perhaps Yahoo needs to question why they even offer this dribble as a front page option. It does a disservice to members in search of actual news and is an insult to motor sport journalists.
btw- Any interest in racing? Let’s see…. 15 years as a sports car safety official and former crew for Trans Am. I’m assuming you truly meant racing and not NASCAR ‘motor sport entertainment’?
No, no, no. I’m not insulting you because you pointed out my typos. They were there and I should have done a better job proof-reading, so that criticism was fairly justified. I’m insulting you because it amuses me to do so. You make yourself an easy target for ridicule when you decide to play hall monitor and try to act like a pompous know-it-all. I’ll have a blast poking fun at you and how seriously you take things that shouldn’t really be taken that seriously. Also, if you would take about 30 seconds to go to the “About Us” page of FastMachines you would read this:
FastMachines.com is a completely private, totally unfunded web site started by a father and son team of auto racing fanatics.
Key words there are private and unfunded. If you continue reading you will find that we are populated by bloggers who just like to share our opinions on racing. I have no problem with being called an amateur blogger, it’s what I am. I enjoy NASCAR, but obviously you do not. That’s your prerogative, and I’m not going to slam you for it, as there are plenty writers/bloggers here at fastmachines who cover the other types of racing and do it pretty well. I would recommend that you check them out, if you truly are a “racing” guy you might enjoy it. This will be my last comment on the matter, so if you want to get the last word go ahead and do so. But realize that if you comment again it will make your third visit to a site that you do not like. Considering that traffic makes the Internet go ’round, I find that rather humorous.
That’s it for me. My inner four-year-old is now satisfied..
