Busch Dominates Loudon, Earnhardt Takes Point Lead

Kurt Busch completed a sweep of the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at New Hampshire International Speedway by leading over half the race before leading Matt Kenseth across the line by 2.051 seconds. Dale Earnhardt Jr leapt to the lead in points with his third-place finish, plus five points for leading two laps. Earnhardt and Busch both ended the day with the same number of points but Earnhardt gains the edge due to more race wins this season.
Robby Gordon was alternately the target and the dart in Sunday’s Sylvania 300. Early in the race, he got spun by Greg Biffle on lap 16, sending him into the pits for tires and dropping the No. 31 Chevy well back in the running order. Somewhat later, on lap 63, he caught back up to Biffle and repaid the compliment, this time involving Tony Stewart and Jeremy Mayfield.
“I don’t know why they (Robby Gordon and Greg Biffle) have to settle it on the race track,” said Mayfield later. “I guess they are too scared to settle it outside the race track … it is a shame for us, we had to get caught up in their mess. It is a shame, this team is better than this … we got caught up in someone else’s stupidity, mistakes.”
Gordon received a two-lap penalty for “rough driving” as a result of his bump into Biffle. Mayfield spent 66 laps in the garage for repairs, dropping him to last in the ten contenders for the championship with a 35th
