DW Was the Prototype for Busch and Harvick

Written by Josh Katinger · September 26, 2003

I guess Darrell Waltrip should be careful about criticizing these young “whipper snappers” like Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick. For those of you who remember a time before big money and corporate sponsorship and everything from the car to the team toilet paper, you’ll remember a young rookie who had more mouth and ego than Harvick and Busch combined…good ole DW…

Yep. I remember when “Jaws” got more and louder boos than the rest of the field combined. He reminded me of the young Muhammed Ali in his brash self-confidence.

DW had the talk and as time proved, he could walk the walk, just like Ali. As both have aged, their detractors have gradually admitted, even if grudgingly, that they were true greats in their respective sports.

Got something to say?
