Earnhardt Jr. in Limbo for New Hampshire
Written by Josh Katinger · July 23, 2004
Since Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s fiery wreck in the Sonoma ALMS event last weekend DEI team representatives have sustained that he would definitely be racing his usual Budweiser mount at this weekends race in New Hampshire. However, Dale hasn’t talked to the press or even posted a personal entry on his web site since the crash last Sunday and skeptics are beginning to doubt that he’ll run this weekend.
USAToday: Earnhardt Jr. in limbo for N.H. race
It is quite likely that the burns Dale sustained to his legs and chin have proven more painful as the days go by and the healing process begins. However, let’s not forget who we’re dealing with here. This is the same guy who hid a pretty serious concussion from his team in order to keep driving during the 2002 season. And let’s not forget who his father was!
I think Dale will at least try to start the race in order to attempt to preserve his points position in “the chase” and then relinquish the car to his back-up driver Martin Truex, Jr. (who drives the Busch car that Dale Jr. owns). It should be an interesting test of Truex, Jr.’s skills and will help assess how ready he may or may not be for prime time.
