Four for 16

Written by John Davison · June 5, 2005

Greg Biffle’s No. 16 Ford went into the lead about 350 laps left in the MBNA RacePoints 400 Sunday at Dover Downs and never looked back. Biffle took his fourth win of the 2005 season, besting rookie hot shoe Kyle Busch and retiring veteran Mark Martin.

Greg Biffle dominated the MBNA RacePoints 400 at Dover Downs International Raceway Sunday, leading 150 of the 400 laps and closing to within 46 points of NEXTEL Cup leader Jimmie Johnson. Johnson led only 24 laps in a race slowed by seven cautions for 33 laps, less than a third as many as last weekend.

Finishing at an average speed of just over 122 mph, Biffle beat out rookie Kyle Busch, who led 90 laps and looked like an early challenger for the win. Just behind Busch, Mark Martin finished third, then greeted his 20-year-old rival with warm compliments for the youngster’s drive.

Jeff Gordon’s day ended early, after a light tap from Tony Stewart sent him spinning into the outside wall after he had run 40 laps in the top ten. Elliott Sadler, in the No. 38 Ford, looked like a winner in the middle laps of the race but then faded to finish tenth. Point leader Johnson led 24 laps on his way to a fourth-place finish and Rusty Wallace finished fifth. Brian Vickers, Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman , Kurt Busch and Sadler filled out the top ten positions at the checker.

Robby Gordon finished six laps down, in 29th place, after leading eight laps early in the race.

Next week’s race is just up the road from Dover, at Pocono, PA.
