Going, Going, Gone

I’m the open wheel guy around here as I believe real race cars don’t have doors. That may be why Nascar got rid of them years ago

I could not agree more. NASCAR has completely transitioned from being a race promoter to a race producer. Now excuse me while I go watch another reality sport, WWE Smackdown.
so that whole article which seemed sincere ends up being about you wishing Harvick gave the win to Martin? No, if you were Harvick you wouldnt give it to Martin. Harvick ran a smart race and got his chance when it counted. For people to try and down play that is just rediculous. I think all the people that complain about nascar are the problems.
It’s not about Harvick giving the win to Martin, it’s about Nascar giving me things I don’t want. Harvick winning is just one more example; especially when in 9.9 of 10 situations they throw the yellow in a millisecond and intentionally do no race to the line.
Douglas Brown, I agree 100% with your comments. Kris, your comments evidence your age and experience level in racing, I rest my case with the fact that you most likely haven’t witnessed REAL Nascar racing first hand like it was done in the days of yesteryear. Thats ok, because indivuduals like you is what fills the Nascar stands these days, thats right Martini/wine/beer driven fans that some for the most part can’t seem to see past the bubbles in their beer or cocktails. I for one am done supporting an entity that is more interested in their commercial time than they are the racing. I am looking elsewhere to satisfy my racing needs. It is interesting to go to an event like the Chili Bowl and see mega stars of the racing world in an environment that is real racing, meant for real racers. There are not racing Gods at the chili bowl, just an amazing array of racing talent who is there to race and win. These are the real racers of the world and they are all glad to be there, where they can race and know that when they win it is a real win not an orchestrated win by the sanctioning body. Just like Tony Stewart said one time at the Irwindale Speedway, “Its nice to be with real racers, not wanna be racers”, yes he got his butt chewed for that remark, but it was the truth and I respect Tony for saying it. The truth will always win.
Me thinks you protest too much. I understand your frustration but really, you were already on your way out as a “Nascar fan”. I very seldom have much good so say about Nascar, but in the end, it was exciting, I mean heck, didja see that gad dum car flyin cross the finnish line on far. Sorry, I got caught in the moment. Anyway, Nascar is what it is, a giant corporate monster that needs to feed the general populace as that’s who watches Nascar now. Personally, my favorite motorsports is drag racing and maybe I’ll see you at the March Meet.
Get rid of restrictor plates, let them run what they brung…..and let the best driver with the best prepared car win regardless of make…let innovation rule the day….where is Smokey yunick when you need him……if you want to see good racin, watch IMCA or DIRT or Woo or any other short track. SHAME ON NASCAR FOR RUINING A ONCE GREAT SERIES.
DH, you are interesting to say the least. I remember in the NHRA when Wally really ran it, you would see a variety of drivers competing, now its like a traveling circus (same drivers week in and week out) that costs its week to week participants any where from $5000.00 a pass to $30,000.00 a pass and on up depending on the size of the operation (amortized cost). Force used to take his team to supper after the meets for a congratulatory round table meeting and an atta boy good job guys type of thing. I told Force one time to please let me take everyone to dinner and treat them and he pulled me off to the side and said Mike, I don’t even take them anymore because it is so damn expensive with so many people now. I too am a big fan of Drag Racing and so is my family as they like the fact that you get your results immediately not 5 hours down the road or days later, it is all decided right there in front of you. I too have redirected some of my motorsports dollars to the NHRA events, but if I had a choice I would prefer the IHRA events as they have the Pro-Comp division and wow, what a division that is…some good heads up racing going on there (with regular guys).
Do yall want some crackers with that wine????
Exactly what I thought. Pre-race concert? You can tell the market NASCAR is catering to. Used to start 11am cst. Now its 3 pm and ends at nite. OOOOHHHH, AHHHHH! Drop the rag and let ‘em rip! It’s harder to watch year after year.
I was disappointed in NASCAR after all the garbage they send out about safety and yet 34 laps from the end of the race I saw the #24 car go below the yellow line to improve his position and nothing was said and then there was the wreck on the last lap and they didn’t throw the caution like they have done before.. just shows how they want to appy their rules to benefit themselves and certain racers.
One more thought and I’ll get off my soapbox…If NASCAR had of thrown the caution like they usually do at the first sign of an accident…the racers involved in the wreck as well as the ones that were BEHIND the wreck and trying to race THRU the debris at speed would not have had to because the field would have been frozen…so does the drivers SAFETY really matter to NASCAR as much as they claim?
That was one of the most exciting races since David and Richard banged into each other and Petty ended up on the in-field, stalled and Pearson limped across the line to win his only Daytona. It was also right up there with Cale and Alison going to blows in the first live televised event. As for watching 160 mph traffic lumbering along, it sure beats the hell out of watching the train go by for an hour at those F-1 events and talk about only 3-4 cars being able to compete. “It was terribly exciting to watch, one car actually passed another.” Oh and about those video game effects, that was showing fans what they can do at home during the race with there computers, and tv’s, more angles more options, so if your not interested in “just” the lead car, you can watch “YOUR” car, from many different angles, on demand. It’s like turning the home viewer into the television producer. As for me, that show could still be running right now and I’d still have it on. If it’s got an engine, I’ll watch. Cars, motorcycles, boats, planes, and I been known to watch wrestling and listen to classical music, it’s all good.
