Harvick and Kenseth Fined $25,000 For Pocono Bumps
Written by John Davison · June 16, 2004
Somewhat to the surprise of some observers, Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick have both been fined $25,000 and placed on probation until August 11 after several incidents of bumping between the two in the closing laps of Sunday’s Pocono 500. The surprise here is that there was no loss in points, a longer probation and possibly even a suspension of one or two races. Attached is the entire release from NASCAR:
NASCAR.com: Harvick, Kenseth Penalized for Incident at Pocono
Drivers Kevin Harvick and Matt Kenseth were fined $25,000 and placed on probation until Aug. 11 for a bumping incident between the two during Sunday”s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR officials announced today.

What a joke IMHO…there need to be points deductions. Money means nothing to the fans.
I’m sick of races ending under caution. They should at least race the last lap. All the bumping and rubbing makes for good TV. I’m also tired of folks trying to make NASCAR some kind of “city-fied” sport. If they don’t like the redneck fans, then get the h*ll back to the city!
Agree with you Wally…however the people who are trying to make NASCAR “city-fied” is NASCAR themselves…they are getting too greedy and wanting to be too much like the NFL, NBA, etc.
Unbelievable. No points loss, no suspension of races, barely any probation. Pretty disappointing. Fans don’t care about monetary penalties…and neither do drivers. It’s all about the points…which Harvick & Kenseth will happily hang on to as they move on to the next race and the next round of their childish, dangerous behavior.
Wally I would hope that one of the “red-neck” fans you refer to isn’t one like the idiot that threw the cooler at the flagman on the last lap in Pocono.
I agree that NASCAR in many ways has gotten away from some of their roots. Its a different world, sponsors rule, and most of them frown upon some of the actions seen in the last few races.
