Hey NASCAR fans, IRL is a good show

I couldn’t agree with Terry Blount’s article in the Mercury News more. The racing in the past year and half or so that has been going on in the IRL is just that….racing. Hard, fast, balls to the wall racing. I watched the end of the Pocono race this past weekend and was satisfied because I picked Newman in my NASCAR pool, but other than that there wasn’t much to be thrilled about. It was a pretty tame ending. Then I switched over to watch the end of the IRL race…

First of all to see Sam Hornish back in the hunt was great, if not shocking. But to watch the last 10-15 laps was exciting as hell. Watching Alex Barron try to get around Sam lap after lap only to have Sam close the door got my pulse up above normal. And then to have Alex just squeak out the win by a 2 foot margin made it a spectacular ending…even if I was pulling for Sam. IRL racing definitley has something great to offer REAL racing fans, not just people who are following the latest “cool” sport to watch, which Blount also points out as a possible reason NASCAR has such a larger following than IRL. I think they just need to market their brand better and utilize sponsor relationships to their fullest.
