Jeff Gordon = Third Martinsville Pole

Written by John Davison · April 16, 2004

Jeff Gordon scored his third straight pole at the oldest track on NASCAR’s tour. Now, if he can match his previous two finishes, he’ll have a true hat trick of three poles and three wins to go with them.

Going out second on the field for qualifying, Gordon cranked out a lap of 20.252 sec/93.502 mph, besting Jamie McMurray’s lap by .057 sec.

Ryan Newman took third on the grid, flanked by Dale Earnhardt Jr, with Kevin Harvick and Ward burton on the row behind them.

Row No. nine is the ‘beer wagon’ row, with Rusty Wallace’s Miller Dodge on the inside and Sterling Marlin’s Coors Dodge outside of Wallace.
