Martin is the perfect fit for Hendrick!

Mark Martin will run the Hendrick Motorsports #5 full time next season, taking what may be his final shot at winning the Sprint Cup Championship. I don’t expect Martin to score as many victories as his teammates in 2009. At least not during the pre-Chase season. But Martin should easily make the Chase… possibly with no victories. But once he is in the Chase anything can happen.

Martin won’t ruffle any of the feathers in the Hendrick nest. He will come to the track each week and get the car to the finish, running upfront as much as his car is capable of. Maybe Hendrick could have found a driver that would get more wins out of the car, but it would have been at the expense of solid finishes and a place in the Chase.

The 400 is tonight. Despite the restrictor plates this should be a good race. Hopefully the “big one” will be avoided and the drivers will be able to sort out the finishing order on the track. There are a bunch of Chevy’s starting up front, but other than Junior I don’t expect any of them to be contenders for the win. Look for the usual suspects: Tony Stewart, Junior, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Jimmy Johnson and Greg Biffle. Don’t expect the Penske crew to pull off a victory again. They haven’t really accomplished anything since the season opener. Sure Kurt Busch won under yellow last week, but I doubt that provides momentum at this track!
