Paul Tracy going trucking, maybe Edmonton?
Written by Scott Keller · June 19, 2008
Is NASCAR stealing away another one? Paul Tracy, one of the most colorful and outspoken characters in the world of open-wheel racing is headed to the Craftsman Truck Series. Robin Miller wrote about the situation on SpeedTV.com and also mentioned that Tracy is trying to put together a ride with Walker for the Indy Car race in Edmonton this summer.
I think that Tony George had better figure out a way to get Tracy in the car for this Canadian race. I don’t think Canadians are as enthusiastic about the fact that they lost two open-wheel races this year, and the aesthetics of the sub-par Indy Car chassis formula won’t wow the fans up north either. But to have a race with no Canadian heroes to root for (sorry Marty Roth, you are a great guy and a hero in the business world, but not in racing) will probably be less than compelling for the locals.

Will this be the last open-wheel car that will be emblazoned with Tracy’s name? |
As for Tracy’s attempt at running the truck series, why not? But we’ve seen Tracy’s lackluster skills at manhandling big stock cars in the Bush series a few years ago, and he’s not that great at it. He needs a carbon-fiber bullet under his shoe, not a lumbering tin-top. But I can’t blame the guy for taking a paycheck, and a shot at a full time NASCAR ride in 2009. I’ll definitely be pulling for him, and follow his attempt at truck series glory.
One thing is for sure, Kyle Bush had better keep an eye on his mirror during that race.
