POCONO 500 Tri-Oval Upset!

Once again Kasey Kahne came out on top of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series… where did he come from. He has had some positive results at Lowes before, but he bested everybody at a driver’s track that also likes horsepower. Does this victory peg Kahne as a serious contender for the Brickyard? There are “experts” that say Pocono and Indy are similar tracks. Kahne and his crew had one mis-fire on a pit stop, but he overcame that too.

The Red Bull team also posted their best finish, but I’m not sure how much a second place finish actually helps a team, unless the first place car blows a tire with three miles to go. Kasey Kahne looks like he has moved his team into contention with the top four big teams I mentioned a few weeks ago. I’m not sure you can say the #9 Bud machine won’t be back to victory lane before the chase begins.

The race for the Chase is on. The fight for the final four chase positions is being fought out among eight drivers currently. The RCR drivers are headed in the wrong direction as the Gibbs and Roush drivers hope to capitalize on the RCR weakness of the #29 and the #07 cars.

I’d still like to see all of the race winners included in the Chase each year. Right now that would only add Ryan Newman to the top twelve. But it would also lock Bowyer into the chase, no matter what happened to his points over the next 12 races. And it would really increase the value of any race victory.
