Points Comparison - Someone Was Bound To Do It

And who better than NASCARs most respected journalist Ben Blake. “It” is of course the calculation of where the top players in the NEXTEL Cup points race would stand under the “old” points system. Here’s what Ben found…

For all the hype over the new format I think, so far, it has been a good thing as it has offered some additional excitement. The real difference this early in “The Chase” is how much smaller the new format makes the gaps. Far more of the competitors have a fighting chance than under the old system. However, as Blake’s calculations show, the participants and their places in the standings aren’t that different when comparing new vs. old.
To sum up - it’s been a better show and has similar standings versus the “old-school” points sytem…but anything can still happen…it’s still anyones championship. So far “The Chase” gets my vote.

Jeff Gordon is the 2005 Champion the way i see it. Stupid ideas by the nascar big shots are screwing up racing. The nascar Monopoly will continue in 2005 and distroy other great racing leagues. New points system sucks
Nascar destroyed any prestige that the sport had. It took away a points win from a good driver like Jeff Gordon and gave it to a no name hot head who didnt even deserve a shot at it like Kurt Busch. The only word i can think of to describe this new points system is GARBAGE.
