To bad this isn’t real short track racing!

Written by Rich Hemstreet · May 5, 2008

NASCAR tries to include a couple of short tracks as they meander across the country each summer. If Kyle Busch had been visiting a local short track and taken out the most popular driver with reckless driving he probably would have been punted through a wall during next week’s hot laps.

This isn’t the first time Kyle did this in ‘08. He also took Johnny Benson out of the lead at Martinsville in the Craftsman Truck event a few weeks ago. The Fox TV crew is amazed at how well Kyle handle’s his car, but you don’t see him spin out running by himself. But if Kyle has the leader outside of him, late in the race, he doesn’t seem to care if he loses control of his racer. Kyle becomes careless when he figures there is a leader to bump off of.

Kyle needs to be placed on probation for the rest of the season, in all NASCAR series. If he takes out one more leader this year, in any division, Kyle needs to sit for six weeks to think about it. Apparently Joe Gibbs isn’t going to control his driver, so NASCAR had better.

If Michael Waltrip can be set down for his stunt certainly Kyle also needs to be put on notice. Of course, if Kyle had pulled off the win, after wrecking Jr., there wouldn’t have been any trash to clean out of the stands after the event. He would have been pelted with everything that wasn’t bolted down. And he would have deserved it.

This “punk” kid needs somebody to take him out behind the woodshed !!! He’s an arrogant A-Hole that seems to think he can get away with anything at everyone else’s expense !!! I could tell from the first ever TV interview that he was going to be a jerk.
I’ve tried to be nice, and not tell you what I really think of this “yahoo” !

I guess you are to young to remember Dale Earnhardt. Of course with him it was just moving someone out of the way or just trying to “rattle his cage”. Jr, was running the high line the whole race and when he decided to come down there were two cars there. This was just racing like it’s been done for 60 years. Just look at the famous drivers that would of spent their entire career on probation if thay call this more than just racing. And Micheal did his after the fact. If Jr. would of lost control and spun Kyle you would be saying how good of a move it was. better get some old tapes of racing past and study them so you can learn what happens when racing is close. I’m not a big Kyle fan but racing is racing and this time it was just racing.

Ah yes, just what the world needs another mind reader that knows, absolutely KNOWS what is in a drivers mind when an on track incident occurs.

Never mind that both drivers in this incident have called it was it was, “just racing,” It’s apparently more important to espouse a theory that can’t possibly be proven.

Its kind of funny if Kyle had of “run over” someone else it would not have been an issue. But since it was fag boy Earnhart, everyone is crying.

stang669, I won’t go so far as calling any one “fag boy,” as that is far too immature and you should know that. (or do you?)

I will say this, Where was the outcry when Earnhardt dumped Busch last October in Kansas?

That accident in the third Chase race effectively ended Busch’s title hopes, dropping him from 10 points out of the championship lead to sixth in the standings, 136 out.

In response to ic23b, trust me, I’m not too young to remember Earnhardt Sr. I did not like him, or his driving style. But, I respected him for what he brought to the sport.
Kyle Busch does not bring ANYTHING to the sport that I respect. And, last saturday’s race could have involved anyone besides Jr. and I’d still say the same thing. Kyle is a brash young punk, and somebody out on the track needs to teach him a lesson !

Unfortunately, Nascar has gotten so commercialized that racing has gotten very boring. Seems like almost every race either finishes on a yellow, or a short sprint to the finish.

To duececoupe: My statement was directed to Rich Hemstreet. I must say that your response contained merit and was very agreeable. I too beleive Nascar has become to commercialized at the expence of the fans. They take away races from such tracks as Richmond, Rochingham and others that almost always produced close racing and gave us the follow the leader tracks. Maybe thay will see the light.

ic23b - “They take away races from such tracks as Richmond, Rochingham and others that almost always produced close racing and gave us the follow the leader tracks. Maybe thay will see the light.”

Excuse me, just what race was taken away from Richmond? Not at the Cup or NNS level that haven’t.

    As for Rockingham, and so?

What are they supposed to do, ignore the crowds that were 10-15 thousand below capacity?

Were they supposed to ignore the complete and utter inability on the part of the owners to upgrade the facility?

I think not. And save me from any talk about current support for Rockingham, the partisans that spent the last 4 years whining failed to show their faces this past weekend at the tracks resurrection. At BEST, attendance was pegged at 20 thousand in a place that seats 60 thousand.

    Hi ic23b,

I saw Dale Sr. move lots of racers out of his way. So far it looks like the COT isn’t as easy to move, which is a good thing. I didn’t like how Sr. moved people, but that’s not my issue with Kyle. Kyle tends to over-drive when he has the leader as an outside bumper. Could Dale have given Kyle more room? Possibly, but he was in front of Kyle at that turn and Kyle should have backed off enough to retain control, just like he should have done at Martinsville in the truck event.

I wish Hamlin’s tire hadn’t gone down, it would have been great to see if Junior could have passed him cleanly at the end. He was catching him, but he might not have had enough laps to pass him. By the way, I’m no big Junior fan either, but it did look like he was making a race of it near the end.

As for Rockingham, I’m sure Kyle Petty misses that track more than most drivers. Didn’t he lap the entire field in one of his victories at the Rock?.

My take on this was that Dale JR had to diamond the corners to keep momentum going. He was racing his line when he came down and Kyle sailed off into the corner just to try and keep Jr. from gaining a nose on him. the resulting crash was a product of Kyle forcing the issue like he is known to do.

Got something to say?
