Top Ten Heading To Richmond

Written by George Katinger · May 10, 2004

Ten races into the season, heading into Richmond International Raceway for racing under the lights Saturday night. The top ten in the standings is an almost sweep of “Young Gun” drivers. The only veteran racers out there are Bobby LaBonte, Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon. Seems all that marketing hype may have some foundation under it!

The encouraging thing is that tenth place (Elliot Sadler) is only 203 points out of first. If the Playoff began today, Dale Jarret, and everyone else from 11th down to his 18th place would also qualify, as D.J. is 380 points off first place. Remember, eveyone within 400 points of first gets in the chase. The other drivers are 11) Kahne, 12) McMurray, 13)Martin, 14)Rusty Wallace, 15)Marlin, 16)Mayfield, 17)Mears, and 18)Jarrett.

The next 16 races will be heavily contested as teams and drivers claw at making it through that magical 400 point window. If you think the crashin’ an’ bashin’, bitchin’ and whinin’ ended at TMS, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!
