Toyota Announces NASCAR Team Owners

Written by John Davison · January 24, 2006

In a press dinner Tuesday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, the three team owners for 2007’s debut of the Toyota Camry were announced.

Bill Davis Racing, as long known, was the first team announced. BDR will field a pair of cars. Joining Davis will be Michael Waltrip as owner of a pair of Camrys.

The third team announced was the surprise. Unlike the incorrect conclusions reached by some journalists who saw signs announcing both the Robby Gordon-sponsored cocktail party and the Toyota dinner, the real news was that Red Bull Racing will be team owner of the third pair of Toyotas.

No drivers, other than Michael Waltrip, have been announced yet for the new manufacturer in NASCAR.

I think this is the beginning of the end of the “Hendrick-Roush” domination. I’m puzzled how Red Bull can afford 4 F1 teams, 2 Cup teams and multiple Formula Renault Teams.

DJ, I know you’re a little young for this, but if you’ve ever seen yuppies in Manhattan bars POUND Red Bull & Jager shots over and over…then realize that Red Bull has global product distribution (I actually first saw the product while in Europe years ago before it was in the US) you would understand where their marketing budget comes from.

Toyota DOES NOT belong in Nascar! and going and trying to steal crew members from real teams is wrong I will never support any toyota teams.Toyota trying to cause problems is going to hurt Nascar and they will loose alot of support!

Got something to say?
