And The Hottest Athlete Is…

It’s not Danica Patrick. It’s not Serena Williams. It’s not Maria Sharapova. And it certainly is not Tom Brady. In an online fan vote hosted by AOL, Funny Car driver Ashley Force was recently named AOL’s Hottest Athlete.

AOL Sports: Meet the Hottest Athlete in Sports

The online poll was conducted in a bracket style much like those NCAA basketball tournaments pools you have played in, for entertainment purposes only of course. Facing off in the female bracket round No. 1, Force beat out the likes of Anna Rawson, a professional model turned golfer, snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler who had posed nude three times, then golfer Paula Creamer. In the final four, Ashley Force took out fellow racer and IRL driver Danica Patrick and in the female finals took out softball pitcher, Jennie Finch. Force eventually beat out New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, the winner of the male bracket, to take home the overall title of AOL’s Hottest Athlete.

Considering the stiff competition that Force faced each round, this is quite a victory. This is not only a personal victory for Ashley Force but for the sport of drag racing in general. Hopefully this win and award bestowed on Ashley Force will open the eyes of a few more people out there to the sport of drag racing. Congratulations to Ashley Force.

What this should do is open the eyes of corporate America to the power of the drag racing fan. Who have to believe they’re many people in sports who right now are saying - What or Who? Now maybe they’ll see, not tennis, football, golf or any other sport or athlete has the loyal backing that drag racing has. Ashley won her contest by wide margins - this was not a fluke. Yes, this should help with the misperceptions of drag racing.

Got something to say?
