Bristol, Tenn., April 27, 2004 – The bright red Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster, driven by 15-time NHRA national event winner Doug Kalitta, wants to revisit hallowed ground in the mountains of East Tennessee this weekend – the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series winner’s circle at Bristol Dragway.

Currently third in Top Fuel championship points, Kalitta and his nitro rail are hoping for a repeat performance of their victory at the O’Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in 2001. This weekend’s festivities, April 30-May 2, will mark the sixth event of the 23-event, $50 million 2004 NHRA season.

“Bristol is a great place for us,” Kalitta said. “The track and the facility are both top-notch. We always look forward to racing in Bristol.

“Connie (Kalitta, crew chief and team owner) and Rahn (Tobler, co-crew chief) have our car right where we want it. We’re making plenty of horsepower. All we need to do now is get that power applied to the right points on the race track.

“Our Mac Tools team is having a great year. We’ve reached two finals already, but we are anxious to get our first win this year.”

Kalitta also has one No.1 qualifying effort this season at the season-opening event in Pomona.

Qualifying for Kalitta, his teammates Scott Kalitta, cousin and driver of the Mac Tools/Jesse James Top Fuel dragster, and “Aussie Dave” Grubnic, driver of the Kalitta Air Top Fuel dragster, begins Friday at Bristol Dragway near Bristol Motor Speedway.
