Downloadable Audio Interviews from Pomona

Written by David Lamm · February 13, 2007

Being a Southern California native has its perks, especially when it comes to being close to the birthplace of drag racing. Each year the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series opens and closes the season at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif. I had a chance to catch up with four drivers (Rod Fuller, Gary Scelzi, Tony Pedregon and Jeg Coughlin) this past Saturday and will share their thoughts with you in four downloadable MP3 interviews. Load them on your iPod, MP3 player or just listen right now on your computer.

‘Hot’ Rod Fuller discusses using a different car than he tested in the winter, bringing on a second car to his team and his expectations of winning the POWERade Top Fuel championship in 2007.

Tony Pedregon, one of only three men to win a Funny Car championship since John Force won his first in 1990, discusses being teammates with his brother Cruz, his expectation for the 2007 season and his thoughts on the new points change for the championship.

Gary Scelzi reveals the key to beating John Force is not to be intimidated, his thoughts on the ‘Chase for the Championship’ and how team chemistry between drivers can build team unity between crew members as well.

That was great David, to give us some extra insights from the horses mouth, so to speak.

I had been out there and talked to a few people but didn’t know the NHRA had put a stop to the mono wing. I figured they wanted to test it some more. Of course they were testing at Phoenix with 4.40’s so what more did they need to know.

    Thanks again.
