I Hate it When I am Right

If you remember back in October of last year, I asked why Gary Densham was making the move to leave John Force Racing.

FastMachines.com: Why Is Gary Densham Leaving John Force Racing?

So with four races in the 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series in the books, Densham has struggled a ton in the early going. Either we were not told the real reason why Densham split with John Force or Densham forgot how hard it had been for him before he joined John Force Racing. Either way, Densham might be regretting that decision in light of his showing this season.

I understand the season is still young but Gary Densham is not off to a stellar start. The lone bright spot on the season was a second round appearance in Gainesville, Fla. in March but even that success needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Despite advancing to the second round, Densham was penalized 10 POWERade points for oiling the track. He has failed to qualify for Sunday’s eliminations three out of the four events this year. That’s a far cry from last year when Densham drove the third team car for John Force Racing. A year ago after the Houston event, Densham was second in points, had two No. 1 qualifying awards and a runner-up to his credit. By comparison, Robert Hight, the driver that took over Densham’s ride in the Auto Club Ford Mustang has been off to a stellar start. Hight qualified No. 1 in Houston and in Gainesville, won in Houston and has yet to record a DNQ in 2005. Night and day when comparing the two drivers.

Both Force and Densham have denied that Densham was pushed out of the seat in favor or a younger driver in order to appease sponsors. Hind sight is always 20/20 but you would have to think Densham is kicking himself if he honestly left John Force to go it alone without a gentle nudge out the door. All I am asking is for someone to come out and admit one way or another why this decision was made.
