I’m pretty tied up getting ready for a conference this week, but wanted to give a quick update on the Mac Tools US Nationals…
- Winner of the Funny Car US Smokeless Showdown was Cruz Pedregon.
- Winner of the Ringers Pro Bike Battle was Eddie Krawiec.
Wally winners are as follows….
- In Top Fuel, Tony Schumacher beat Doug Kalitta for his seventh victory, which breaks two of his own class records (most consecutive victories and most wins in a season.) This ties him with Joe Amato’s 52 career titles.
- In Funny Car, Robert Hight beat Jack Beckman in Hight’s third straight final round at US Nats (he won in 2006 and was runner-up last year.)
- In Pro Stock, 25-year-old Dave Connolly defeated Larry Morgan in the final round to capture his 20th career win, his third this season and his second US Nats title in a row.
- In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Steve Johnson ran down Andrew Hines for a thrilling win, his second victory at the Big Go; last year, he didn’t know he’d won until a review of the results gave him the Wally long after everyone had already gone home.
For full race results, see the NHRA.com Monday recap. The Countdown to 1 field is now set, with Schumacher, Wilkerson, G. Anderson and Matt Smith at the top of their respective classes. Click here for the complete Countdown standings. The next race is Sept 11-14 — the new Carolinas Nationals at zMAX Dragway at Lowe’s Motor Speedway near Charlotte, North Carolina.
