Rumor: Larry Dixon To Leave Snake Racing
Written by David Lamm · November 29, 2008
The nitro fumes in Pomona have yet to dissipate and the NHRA rumor mill is already in full churn. Drag Racing Online is reporting that Top Fuel Champion Larry Dixon will be leaving Don Prudhomme’s Snake Racing and will drive the Al-Anabi Top Fueler next season. That car, as you know, will be tuned by Alan Johnson. DRO is also reporting that Spencer Massey, who is already under contract with Prudhomme, will be Dixon’s replacement in the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco dragster in 2009.
Drag Racing Online: Dixon will drive for Alan Johnson!
If you read the article it leads with “The Agent can now report with a high degree of certainty“. Of course DRO has some pretty solid sources and that is a nice way of saying, “we got a phone call before the press release was written.”. Because it is still not official I wouldn’t go betting your mortgage on this one but feel free to rush to the message boards and speak as if this is a done deal.
With Ron Capps, Tommy Johnson Jr and now Dixon all gone from Don Prudhomme Racing, it will seem a bit weird to watch NHRA next season. I know drivers switch teams, owners and sponsors all the time but it was a nice little run of consistency that Snake and Dixon had going. I am sure both will be just fine apart from each other but it still feels like a divorce in which both spouses are really good friends.
It will be weird but the good thing is the Top Fuel class is adding another car to the ranks in an age when drivers and teams were leaving that class in droves.

fact:
Since NHRA knee jerked and went to 1000 feet for Fuel cars, I don’t care about drag racing any more!
