Written by David Lamm · March 26, 2007
Funeral services for professional race car driver Eric Medlen, 33, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday (March 28) at Connection Pointe Christian Church, 1800 N. Green Street, Brownsburg, Indiana. In addition to Wednesday’s services, there will be a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the same church.
Medlen succumbed to complications from a closed head injury four days after his drag racing Funny Car crashed during routine testing at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla.
A six-time winner on the NHRA drag racing tour, Medlen maintained his residence in Brownsburg near the site of the midwest shop facility that housed his race car and those of John Force Racing teammates John Force, Ashley Force and Robert Hight.
According to John Force Racing sources, flowers can be arranged through Queen Anne’s Lace in Brownsburg. The phone number is (317) 858-8170.
BP/Castrol, which established a special e-mail address for get well messages while Eric Medlen was fighting for his life, has set up a new address at which fans and friends can offer condolences to the family of Eric Medlen.
Fans can leave their messages at goodbyeeric@castrol.com. Those messages will be assembled, printed and placed in a scrapbook that will be presented to the family.
Medlen, one of the most popular young drivers in the NHRA POWERade Series, is survived by his father, John; his mother, Mary “Mimi” Medlen; his stepmother, Martha Medlen; and a sister, Eryn Gonzales.

Let us not be saddened by this tragic loss, but forever rejoice in the life of this extraordinary young man. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I will never forget you Eric.
Their comes a time in life where the almighty send people to the earth with special abilities in life. He just gives us a glimpse of victory, happiness, and glory. He then takes them away because their are special qualities in a man that will never reappear again. That is what made Eric Medlen special. God gave him to us for just a little time so we can imagine, hope and admire his abilities as a human being. May the Lord enjoy him as he lights up the track in heaven, this will make him ride the sky for ever.

Godspeed my friend…..
Eric, my heart and emotions go to you and your family. You were a glorious man and an amazing driver. May you forever rest in peace in heaven with the Lord. I will never forget what you once told me at the track: Go Italy! You will be greatly missed.
I remember the first year you drove for John. I was so excited when you won your way into the finals at Topeka. Your smile lit up the whole world, and the way you smiled at me when you signed my t-shirt. I too lost a son to the fight for freedom and I know the two of you have become fast friends there in heaven. You and Darren take good care of each other and have fun. We’ll see you both again one day. Love you Eric. You will be greatly missed by all.
My deepest condolences to your family. God Bless You All.
